I must have had too much time to myself over the Easter break as I’ve let myself in for some extra work. I’ve now got a pair of Senegal parrots to feed and clean out!
Sunshine is the male - He’s got a silver ring on his left leg and he’s a little bigger than the female but when they’re apart they look exactly the same! Rainbow is the female - she has a green leg ring on her right leg that luckily matches her wings. (Does the left/right leg have any significance?)
Although these have been DNA sexed and are a male and female they have not bonded as a pair and I dont think either have had chicks before.
They are very wary of us at the moment and screech when we go near - especially me!.
Vanessa made them some fruit kebabs that they seemed to enjoy and as she’d made them into toy like things we also had some fun watching them climb around.
Hopefully they’ll settle down in the next few weeks and get more used to us moving around their cage and realising its us that feed them. I don’t expect they’ll ever be tame but as long as I keep all of my fingers I’m not too bothered.
These are not tame birds by any stretch and their beaks are very intimidating! They are more acrobatic than cockatiels and seem to like hanging from the top of the cage.
