Smokey and Cedric have started school now. Cedric hasn’t ventured out of the nestbox yet - he’s probably heard about Squawk’s Smokey’s ordeal.
Their feathers are coming through very quickly and (if my camera batteries hadn’t given up) you’d be able to see some new photos! - You can now!
Their feathers are just coming through properly and they both look identical (except for the size difference) and should end up like Romeo - their father. In looks but hopefully not in romantic ways!
They both have a lot more pearling than Romeo at the moment - but that maybe because the feathers still have a little way to grow.
After his brief excursion into the cage squawk has applied to have his name changed by deed poll to Smokey. The hunt is now on through the aviary for the bird that was teasing him about his name. (The fact that Stan is the only bird that can actually talk tends to point the blame in his direction although he looks very innocent!)
Smokey has made his first trip out of the nest box into the cage. Got to the cage floor and decided that he’d rather be back in the box. With a little help and being carefully watched by Florence, Pebbles and Romeo he made it back.
Smokey and Cedric are both coming out of the nest box now. Very shaky on the branches and do end up on the floor quite a bit.
Smokey had his first flight today - made it out of the Utility room and landed on the curtain rail in the kitchen. I think this was all too much for him then as he started screaming for help. Florence and Romeo both came to his rescue and he was very glad to get back in the cage.
Cedric is watching all of this with interest and although I reckon he can fly he’s a little reluctant to give it a go.
The recent loss of feathers hasn’t affected Smokey or Cedric although they are a bit suspicious of me trying to get a photo of the back of their heads.
Living in the front room is a little scary for them at the moment, but Florence is the one that’s being really grumpy. I’ll take them back to the main aviary during the daytime so that Romeo can help with the feeding - after all Florence is only their Aunty.
We’re all pleased to find that their feathers are starting to grow back although I don’t think Smokey and Cedric noticed anything had happened.
They are back in the main aviary as they tend to stay out of the nest box. Their flying is so much better now, they actually stop before they hit the ceiling, well most of the time.
It has come to the our attention that their school reports have not been posted for a while - A fine of 2 beers has been issued to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
Since having their wings clipped they’ve both started paying proper attention in school and are quite happy to sit on your shoulder while you wander around - just look out if you are wearing earrings though!
These two are both real characters. As these two have grown up in the main aviary they have learned to get along with the other adult birds. These two have both taken to the string of coloured beads they can play with at school.
